Many predicted this would happen – and we were one of the few who thought it might not. Apparently we were wrong.
There really is no market for a premium hatchback. Even if it is from Honda. The super-low sales of the Honda Jazz proves this.
It seems that in December 2009, Honda SIEL produced 1066 units of the Jazz small (not so small) car in India but managed to sell only 269 units. Not good at all.
Now the dealers are saddled with 2009 stock, and according to the Economic Times, are offering discounts up to Rs 40,000 t0 clear their stock.
Honda had made it clear that they did not expect high sales for the Jazz, and knew the market would be small. But it looks like even they did not expect that sales would be this low.
No matter. If you have always loved the Honda Jazz but were scared away by its price, this is good news indeed. Grab that discount, bargain hard and get a good deal. You will have a car that looks like, in the words of a veteran automobile journalist, looks like an escape pod from a spaceship!
