Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd has launched a new version of its Honda Aviator scooter in India.

The new scooter offers a 110 cc engine, at a price which is 15 per cent less than the model it replaces. Talk about good value for money. The earlier Aviator scooter had a 102 cc engine. The new engine is the same as the one which Honda employs in the Activa scooter, which is priced some Rs 6000 lower than the Aviator. Natural, as the Aviator is the premium scooter model from Honda.

Honda says that the scooter offers better fuel efficiency that the previous model Aviator.

The 102 cc Honda Aviator offered 7 bhp – the new 110cc version will produce 8 bhp. Maximum torque is 9 Nm at 5500 rpm.

The scooter will be available in two versions – Aviator Standard and Aviator Deluxe. The price of the Aviator Deluxe (ex-showroom Delhi) would be Rs 47,160 while the Aviator standard would be available at Rs 42,160.

The new Aviator is a gearless scooter with variomatic suspension.

Two new colours are also on offer – Neo Orange Metallic and Pearl Heron Blue.

Other new features in the Aviator scooter include a ‘combi brake’, better battery which is longer-lasting with lower maintenance, puncture resistant tubes in the tyres, front telescopic suspension and front disc brakes.

Honda Aviator scooter also has an interesting innovation – a ‘combi’ brake. When the rider depresses the brake lever on the left, the front and rear brakes both get activated for better braking. Very useful in India, where a lot of people refuse to touch the front brake entirely!

You get alloy wheels and some chrome and matching grab bars etc in the premium version of the Aviator.

Lookswise, you have nothing to lose out on. The Aviator has always been a good looker, and the tradition continues in the new 110cc scooter. Alloy wheels are nice in the Aviator Deluxe, and both versions feature disc brakes in the front with 3-piston calipers.

Honda says that the telescopic suspension in the Aviator will ensure a better ride, better handling, better high-speed handling and all-round betterment!

Seats look comfortable enough for a couple – which is the market Honda is targeting this scooter at. A new viscous air filter catches dust better for lnger filter life, and Honda says that the puncture resistant tube can reduce the chance of punctures by up to 70 %.

All-round good deal, eh?

We don’t have the full specifications of the Honda Aviator with us right now – but neither does Honda’s own website (they don’t even know the new Aviator 110 cc is launched!) so you can forgive us there. We are trying to get hold of it.
