Hero Honda plans ultra cheap motorcycle at Rs 15000

If plans go on stream as per schedule, Hero Honda will unveil a new motorcycle that would be available in the market for a price ranging between Rs 12,500 and Rs 15,000. The company plans to create a new niche segment of the Indian motor cycle market where it can be the undisputed king.

This actually has been Hero Honda’s plan for a long time. We carried a story about an ultra cheap motorcycle from Hero Honda for India between Rs 12,500 and 15,000 last year. Things are moving forward at Hero Honda for sure – but very little info has been released to the media.

Hero Honda, which is already the biggest in terms of market share in the Indian motor cycle market with its hugely popular models, expects to push up sales and acceptance levels by launching sub-Rs 15,000 motorcycles. The cheapest motorcycle in the Indian market currently sells for around Rs 30,000.

Hero Honda’s cheapest motorcycle models currently in India are the CD Deluxe, Glamour, Splendor NXG, Splendor + and Passion Plus.

The ongoing credit crunch and high interest rates initially looked like a bad thing for Hero Honda, but the company has done well. Their cheap motorcycles and low prices have actually helped them recapture the cost-conscious market, and in this financial year, Hero Honda sales would marginally surpass sales in the last year.

Hero Honda top brass has already swung into action with the hopes of building a cheap mobike son for the Indian market. Though not much has been put on the drawing board yet, company officials clarified that Hero Honda is seriously looking at the possibility. The move is said to have been sprung up following the government’s outlining of the Automotive Mission Plan. The company, which is the leader in the two-wheeler segment, is expected to witness higher than the industry growth and gain market share driven by significant presence in rural India and new product launches.

As for the present, Hero Honda is expected to perform well in the coming 2008 Diwali festive season with new motorcycle launches on the anvil. The company has been driving growth in the industry despite a high interest rate scenario and an overall credit squeeze in the market remaining unchanged.

    Hi, This is Suraj Gupta. I am also a Hero Honda Customer. I have Hero Honda Splendor and believe on Hero Honda since my childhood.
    It seems good to hear that Hero Honda is planning to launch the ultra cheap motorcycle. If Hero Honda launches the ultra cheap motorcycle in the market so it will help Hero Honda to cover the lover middle class customer. Although Hero Honda has a good command over Indian Motor Cycle Market and a No. 1 Motor Cycle Company in the market. But this launching will be helpful for Hero Honda to cover lot much customers.

    Its good but does anyone had thinked about traffic problems that we gonna face in future. In metro cities we will find everyone with a motor bike but about the parking space, Due to this daily we get to hear accident cases. Like mobiles it has happened that maximum people has two mobiles, same will be happen in case of motorcycle. Motorcycle companies should keep the affordable prices but not so cheaper that everyone will face a problem in near future. They just think about their profits, but not about environmental issues that we all gonna face just because of these cheaper rates of motorcyles
