A-ha. So now we have Harley Davidson in India. This is after a lot of anticipation, mind you. Never mind that most of us are not going to be able to afford even the cheapest Harley in India. That would be the 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883.

Mentions of this motorcycle on the Net, and even on Harley Davidson’s own sites, refer to the bike as 883 Low XL883L. I have no clue what all those XL and the extra 883 means, but doesn’t matter anyway.

The price of the Sportster in the US is $ 6,999. Convert that to Indian rupees, and you get Rs 3,36,000 approx. But the story doesn’t end there, as we know. After cut-throat, hellish, evil, terrorist-like duties, our government would make sure that the real price of this entry level Harley in India would be around Rs 10 lakh. I am just guessing, but for every 1 lakh lower the Sportster 883 is priced in India, I would delete one of those adjectives about our government, I promise.

The Harley Davidon India website offers minimal information about the Sportster 883.

Engine: Air-cooled, rubber-mounted 883cc Evolution engine
Exhaust: Staggered Shorty exhaust
Fuel Tank: Classic peanut fuel tank
Suspension: Low front and rear suspension
Seat: Low solo Sportster rider seat

A bit of research gave me some extra data on the Sportster.

You get a silver powder-coated engine with polished covers, a chrome exhaust with dual staggered shorty mufflers (Harley’s chrome finish is to be seen to be believed, dudes.)

The fuel tank holds 12.5 liters of petrol. Wheels are silver, 13-spoke cast aluminum, black headlamp bucket with polished visor and chrome trim ring,
stainless steel, pull-back handlebar and black riser.

Harley Davidson 883 Sportster performance

The Evolution V-Twin engine is air-cooled, and the powertrain with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) of the Sportster 883 offers 74.57 Nm of torque at @ 3500 rpm. The sportster would be a 5-speed bike. There are no power output figures available at this time – remember this is a 2010 motorcycle, and probably Harley wants to hold that back for a little while.Fuel efficiency would be approx 25 kilometers to a liter on the highway, and around 17-18 kmpl in the city. It might be a lot lower in India, considering that our cities are hardly natural territory for a Harley.
