The car will be available for sale from August 12, 2009, across the country, at an entry-level price of Rs 4.82 lakh and Rs 5.42 lakh, for the petrol and diesel version respectively.

“Starting August 12, the Ikon iKool will be available at Ford dealerships across India at an aggressive price of Rs 4.82 lakh (petrol) and Rs 5.42 lakh (diesel), ex-showroom, New Delhi,” the company said in a statement.

The diesel version of the Ford Ikon iKool is driven by Duratorq TDCi 1.4 and the petrol variant by ROCAM 1.3 petrol engines that conceive ‘class leading’ fuel efficiency.

“The Ikon iKool is a fun to drive yet economical car. Its new feature rich persona along with legendary driving characteristics will appeal to the upwardly mobile and ambitious customers who want their car to complement their active lifestyles.” said Nigel Wark, executive director, marketing, sales and service, Ford India.

The Ford Ikon iKool sports a new iKool badging, chrome deck lid appliqué, Black BSPM and a spoiler.

The Ford Ikon iKool comes with integrated iPod compatible Mp3 audio system, matching seat covers, and also features a keyless remote entry which can be categorized under the anti-theft system.

The company offers customers a 2-year /1,00,000 kilometers warranty, as well as an option to purchase ‘Extended Warranty’, which will cover the car against electrical and mechanical failures for an extra period of time.

Ford India has said that the Ford Ikon is proven to be “the most reliable sedan on Indian roads” after the car delivered fuel economy of 28.54 kmpl and a low running cost of Rs.1.39 per km in a 52-day ‘Ikon Cross Country Drive.’

The drive covered over 20,000 kms over different types of terrain.

Related reports say that for the first time since its establishment ten year ago, Ford India will be exporting cars in huge volumes from Chennai.

At present it has exported only 158 units to Durban, but has plans to export its future models including the upcoming small car. The company might export its models to various Asia-Pacific countries and African countries by 2010.
