Tata Motors is likely to benefit with regard to more models standing the chance to be lined up at its dealerships following the coming together of Fiat and Chrysler.According to reports, Italian car giant Fiat has firmed up measures to pocket a 35 per cent stake in Chrysler. With this development coming up, Fiat’s Indian partner Tata Motors see brands like Jeep Cherokee driving in to the country. Fiat in the meanwhile is also making a pitch for small cars holding aloft its expertise in the space. With Fiat-Tata relationship set to grow better, Fiat officials too believe that motre Chrysler brands would flow into India.
It is being said that the strategic joining hands between Fiat and Chrysler wil bring in to focus more small and chepaer models. Fiat, expects the deal to materialise, and if it really does, the partnership will provide Chrysler with the much needed access to its mini, lower-medium and upper-medium product platforms. Chrysler has been known for bringing to the car market a variety of gas-guzzling SUVs and sedans. With fuel efficiency and minimal carbon emissions turing out to be the orfder of the day, the deal might also help Chrysler gain access to more fuel-efficient and smaller engines and transmissions.
Significantly, Fiat’s associatrion with Tata Motors focuses more on small car building and technology sharing. Though it has been reiterated that Tata-Fiat alliance was not product or market-specific, Fiat feels that it really wants to be partners with Tata Motors in whatever manner possible. It may be noted that Fiat had been in the news for the discussions it had kicked off with Tata Motors to sell the Rs 1-lakh car Nano in select export markets. Fiat might also go ahead and involve the Tatas in the global low-cost car project that the company has announced, it is believed. In the Indian scene too, it might go in for a joint product development deal with Tatas, if the grapevine is to be believed.
