Fiat and Tata Motors are said to be in talks to launch the Ferrari and Maserati brands to India. Ratan Tata confirmed that the two car makers were in talks to bring the Ferrari and Maserati brands to India via a joint marketing venture.
There is no indication about the price at which the Maserati and Ferrari models will be launched in India.
Maserati was established in 1914 and is owned by Fiat.
Ferrari is one of the most popular cars in India. Although it never made it to the Indian markets, it has a huge fan following in the country.
Both these companies plan to expand their partnership to import these cars for sale in the Indian market.
Tata Motors entered the luxury car segment in India with the launch of the Land Rover and Jaguar brands in India on June 28, 2009.
Currently, Tata Motors sells three Jaguar models, the XF, XFR, and XKR priced between Rs 63 lakh and Rs 92 lakh.
Apart from the Jaguar models, Tata sells three Land Rover models in India, the Discovery 3 priced at Rs 63 lakh, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover priced at Rs 89 lakh.
Business Standard has reported that Tata Motors has sold one Jaguar and Land Rover model a day since the day of its launch.
Fiat and Tata Motors are also in talks to market Tata Nano in Latin America, where Fiat has a significant presence.
“We have various projects, to take the Nano to Latin America together, to share platforms for new cars, we have projects for Iveco and marketing Ferraris and Maseratis. We are talking about a lot of things,” Ratan Tata was quoted as saying.
The company plans to export the Tata Nano to Europe, South America, SouthEast Asia and Africa.
Fiat India Automobiles is a 50:50 joint venture between Fiat and Tata Motors.
