So its rumuor time again. The diesel Santro that we first wrote about in 2007 – it is again popped up and this time the news is that it would be launched sometime in 2009 in India.
f it does, good for the customers and Hyundai. India can always do with a small diesel car.
Initially it was believed that the engine for the diesel Hyundai Santro will be a 1.1. liter CDRi engine. This could be indeed true, but there is no official confirmation on anything from Hyundai. A diesel Santro, though, makes sense in an year when the slowdown has hit everyone – and those who really have to buy a car would be more open to a car that would be cheaper to run.
As far as the Getz is concerned, the same thing holds true. But I am not entirely sure how they wold position it, though. Already, Hyundai has the i10, the i20, the Santro, the Verna, the Accent and the Sonata Transform – and a petrol Getz. The i30 also is rumoured to be coming soon. The Getz while being a good car was not exactly popular in its first avatar – would a diesel one make sense now?
Hold on to your cash for a few more weeks anyway, if any of those diesels – Santro or Getz – interests you. If no further news is forthcoming from Hyundai, forget it.
