It is called the U-VA. The hatchback from the GM stables, Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, has rolled out on to the India tarmac. The launch this time has a specific mission – rev up General Motors’ numbers in the Indian auto mart.
According to sources, the company is aiming at total annual sales of 2,00,000 units by year 2010 as it has brought more products in the hatchback segment including the yet-to-be-launched Spark.
The competition for the 1.2-litre Aveo U-VA would come from Maruti Swift and Hyundai Getz. GM has decided to make available the Chevrolet U-VA in three variants with the base model being priced at Rs 3.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Meanwhile, the other two variants of the model have been priced at Rs 4.39 lakh and Rs 4.79 lakh, respectively.

This apart, GM is all set to unveil the new avtaar of the erstwhile Daewoo Matiz through Spark. The automaker would be banking heavily on the Aveo U-VA and the yet-to-debut Spark to ramp up its numbers in the country.
With this in mind the company has re-engineered the Aveo U-VA to suit Indian conditions. It ay be noted that the U-VA launch is GM’s second attempt in the premium hatchback segment after the failure of Corsa Sail. The new launch has been effected after correcting the earlier follies, it is learnt.
