Bajaj Platina 125 cc motorcycle unveiled

New Platina 125 cheaper than Splendour 100 cc motorcycle.

Two-wheeler major Bajaj Auto has unveiled a new variant of its Platina. The new Platina 125 cc comes with a higher engine displacement and is powered by Bajaj’s own patented DTS-Si technology.

The company has brought the 125 cc variant with a price tag of Rs 39,000. This significantly enough is cheaper than Hero Honda’s 100 cc Splendour model priced at Rs 41,000. This new Platina will offer the power of a 125cc motorcycle and also deliver a mileage of more than 100 kms to a litre, said the company. The aim, in fact, is to convert the user of 100cc bikes to 125cc.

Positioned against the Hero Honda Splendour and the TVS Star City, the Platina 125 is expected to bring in more sales figures for Bajaj. The company hopes to sell about 75,000-80,000 units of Platina motorcycles a month.

With a revised gearbox, fresher body panels and optional alloy wheels, the new Platina 125cc motorcycle has given added strength to the Bajaj line up. The body panels, fairings, electronics of this bike may be seen as taken over from Bajaj’s successful Wind 125 Worldbike.

The new Platina motorcycle, which has been rolled out for the Indian bike marketplace, is expected to see the two wheeler major rake in good money. The new Bajaj Platina 125 cc will be available at all Bajaj dealerships in the country.

Besides the new launch, Bajaj Auto is now expected to launch a dual-fuel motorcycle which will run on CNG or LPG as well as petrol.

Bajaj Auto had posted sales of about 2.5 million units during financial 2008. The company saw exports of 618,000 units to South Asia, Africa, Central and Latin American markets.
