Bajaj Discover 100cc DTS-i motorcycle to be launched soon

Bajaj Auto Limited is all set to re-enter the 100cc segment with the launch of the Bajaj Discover 100cc DTS-i on July 27, 2009. The new 100cc Bajaj Discover motorcycle will be based on Bajaj Auto’s DTS-Si (Digital Twin Spark-Swirl induction) engine technology.

Bajaj Auto CEO (two-wheeler), S Sridhar said, “We are launching this 100 cc bike with DTS-Si. This 100 cc bike will give a mileage of 80 km per litre and run for 100 km in a day.”

Apart from the twin spark technology, the Bajaj Discover 100cc DTS-i is also equipped with a new combustion chamber and a 5-speed gear box.

We don’t have a photo of this motorcycle at the moment – but why, anyway – it is going to look like the standard Bajaj Discover which we already know.

“By giving these things we will upgrade the 100cc customer to the performance level of a 125cc bike,” Sridhar said.

The Bajaj Discover 100cc DTS-i has been positioned as a long-distance motorcycle, aimed at the average commuter who makes trips of over 50kms daily.

Customer feedback also showed that nearly 25-30 per cent of this segment, drives around 100km twice or thrice a month.

The company says that with the new Bajaj Discover 100cc DTS-i motorcycle, it wants to create a new long-distance biking segment.

The motorcycle promises to provide excellent mileage, durability and comfort, over and above what 100cc motorycles offer, according to Bajaj Auto.

“The new Discover is extremely fuel-efficient and its mileage in actual road riding conditions is 80 km per litre compared to 65 kmpl in most other 100cc bikes,” Mr Rajiv Bajaj, (Managing Director) said.

The company has said that it the Molycote Piston, sturdy Discover format, and the use of the DTS-i technoloy has ensured high durability.

Extra comfort has been achieved through the longest wheelbase in the segment, anti-stiction bushes in the front forks, Nitrox suspensions and ergonomic seating, the company said.

The company did not provide any concrete details about the price of the Bajaj Discover 100cc DTS-i motorcycle, although S. Sridhar has said that since the 100cc Bajaj Discover is positioned in the executive segment, the price would be appropriate to that segment.

The motorcycle is likely to cost between Rs 34,000 – Rs 42000, the price of the 100cc Bajaj Platina and the Bajaj XCD 125, respectively.

The company has said that the 100cc Bajaj Discover will not replace Bajaj Auto’s entry-level motorcycle, the 100cc Bajaj Platina.

“Platina is like a Maruti 800. A customer will purchase Platina if he cannot afford an expensive bike. We would not have been able to price our new bike appropriately if it was based on Platina platform. Hence, it’s the Discover platform, whose brand image is already established as a long distance-performance oriented bike,” Sridhar was quoted as saying.

The Bajaj Discover 100cc DTS-i will compete with the likes of Hero Honda’s Splendor and Passion models. The company aims to sell 2,40,000 units of its new Discover 100cc model per month in fiscal 2009-2010.

As of now, market leaders in the 100-cc segment, Hero Honda’s Splendor and Passion, post sales of around 3,00,000 units per month.

The Bajaj Discover 100cc DTS-i motorcycle will be manufactured at the company’s Chakan plant in Pune and would be inaugurated by R Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor, Government of India.

    after going through most of ur discussions above I would like to mention that

    1. Bajaj Discover 100cc is the best bike in this segment
    – The ultimate engine in todays edition. Refinement to perfection, I can say this because i just had the test ride. Engine is brilliant. The gear shifting is smooth as butter, u can infact call it MAKHAN! a decent power much better that all the other in this segment
    – Control, as Discover chassis has proven, its long wheel base, it has a wonderful control even on highways. The smoothest ride with the nitrox suspension
    – The styling is comparatively the best and with additional features like
    – self start (is very responsive and smooth)
    – led tail lamp
    – nitrox suspensions
    – black body
    The on road price is just INR 45000, with a MILEAGE of 80-85 km/l, highest in this segment, here the splendor and passion can only give us 55-60 km/l, imagine how much u can save? forget about the resale value, because if u actually calculate u could buy a new splendor with that saving. And this time i am sure that this bike will have an amazing resale value, for the brand and the reliability.     Your comments are true. I had a test ride on Discover 100 today. This is the first zero-defect 100cc vehicle coming from Bajaj. I demand the Bajaj that all the owners of XCD 125 should be suppled Discover 100cc at free of cost for the injustice done to them with a highly worst and unstable bike like XCD 125. Iam one of the victims of XCD 125

    dis 100 cc has dts-si2.0 (like a pentium II.iii,iv) 7.7bhp @7500rpm,led tail, wider mrf rear tyre.its nice and has nitrox suspension,mileage is 89 standard.mileage is good for this bike and looks like a discover 135

    I have purchased the Discover 100cc and I dont regret my decision.I have been researching on bikes and this one tops the list.Smooth ride ,comfort and above all mileage.I have driven a platina for quite some time and discover is better. …………@Sunny—-It doesn’t come with disc brake.I got it at 45200, Including all costs with accesories. …………….happy riding

    The 100cc discover has a long way to go in terms of engine refinement and reliability. The engine is not refined and bajaj should do something immediately if it wants its sales to continue going up before it spreads by word of mouth that the engine noise vibration and Harshness are way above the acceptable level. Though the engine is rubber mounted, bajaj should immediately include barend weights to control NVH to a certain level., sure this is not going to cost anything since all bajaj bikes pulsar and discover have barendsweights.

    Hey guys, out of five colors i think the blue and red are really sexy (I own a red one). Self start, great grip, excellent shock absorbers, maintenance free battery, great mileage, stylish sporty and sexy look. A nice deal for Rs.45,000 (including insurance and registration). Superb bike for higher altitudes and uphill / downhill roads as well (here in Port Blair).

    Even though the 100cc bajaj discover dts si bike has all the good features of a 100 cc bike , especially its mileage ( 70 to 80 ) ,it has a look of bajaj 135 cc bike , which is very stylish , but i believe its price is on the higher side . people buy 100 cc bike mainly because of its price which ranges form 34000 to 45000 . but this bike is costing more then that . it has a power of 7.7 bhp , which is less then any bike in the catagory of 125 cc or more with same or less price . so one has to keep all these things in the mind before going for it
