The hugely successful Audi A4 sedan’s Indian production run has begun. The A4 model, which has been launched on the Indian market in July 2008, is the second Audi model to be produced at its Aurangabad plant after the Audi A6.
The company hopes to build as many as 11,000 Audi A4 and 7,000 Audi A6 models in India by 2015. It is also lining up an investment close to 30 million Euros at the Indian production facility. In 2009, the first full year of production, 640 Audi A4 sedans will be assembled in a single-shift operation, as will 380 Audi A6 models. Audi aims to sell 1,000 units of the whole model range this year, 3,000 units per year by 2010 and 10,000 units per year by 2015.
The company, which is seeing India as one of the most important future growth markets fro its luxury brand vehicles, is said to be finalizing a strategy to establish the Audi A4 model successfully in the long term on the Indian market. Audi’s sales in the first eight months of this year had grown by over 190 percent to around 700 cars.
The Aurangabad plant has around 50 technicians at work on the Completely Knocked Down production. The facility boasts of cutting-edge technology and highly skilled employees and has flawless skills in production, electronics, logistics and quality, the company has said.
The company has also kicked off expansion of its dealership network. The new showrooms will be designed to give the customer a complete Audi experience, with all Audi models made available. The full Audi model range of Audi A8, Audi Q7, Audi A6, Audi A4 and Audi TT is available at present in dealership showrooms across the country, located at Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Kochi and Gurgaon.
