Yes, really. Figo meets Oscar, our favorite canine.

Enough space for Oscar to spend a day in the boot! All photos by Avneesh Kumar
A perfect family car would have loads of space for the man, wife, children and well, man’s best friend!

On Day 4, our Figo had an unlikely passenger—Oscar—a pet dog of a colleague working in the same office building as ours. We took Oscar out for a spin to find out how pet-friendly, or not, the car is.

Now unlike in markets abroad, dogs in India get a raw deal. For instance, last year, Honda had unveiled a dog-friendly version of the Element in New York. The SUV boasts a slew of canine-friendly features —a cushioned dog bed in the cargo area, spill-proof water bowl, a fan and a fold-out ramp for less agile dogs to get in and out.
While the Figo’s spec sheet doesn’t hold a candle to the Element, Oscar did seem to be taking an unusual interest in the car. Perhaps, it was just the right size—neither too big nor small—for Oscar to jump in and out of the car unassisted and with ease. Also, Figo being bigger than regular hatchbacks means it has ample room in the back for Oscar to lounge.

Oscar settles down with the Figo.
But one nifty feature—which has been panned by Figo critics —turned out to be a boon. The Figo’s rear windows roll down only 60 percent—just enough for Oscar to stick his head out of the window.

The Figo has probably earned a new fan in Oscar as he delightfully got out of the car wagging his tail, perhaps as a sign of approval.

It would have been nice if Ford provides some stain-resistant seat covers as an option for dog lovers like me.

Just add a pretty woman in the frame with the driver and their cute little Oscar, and you have an Oscar winning picture

The 60% opening rear windows and the fact that the rear parcel tray can be removed to fully use the spacious boot area, does make this an ideal car to carry your pet in. If you aren’t carrying luggage, remove the parcel tray, flip down the seat and let Oscar enjoy his air-conditioned, lemon-colored mobile bedroom. Hmm, mobile bedroom, that’s a thought… how cold did you say the AC was again?

LOL. This sure makes the BIG difference between the Figo and others
Although I’ve personally experienced how tiresome it can be traveling with your pet, but then again, I don’t mind my pooch barking through the window at random passerby.
Go Oscar..

How’s the leg space in the car? Especially for the people in the back, when the driver and co-driver seats are pushed all the way back? Can Kshitij fit in with ease without cribbing?

Dude, what are some of the more salient features of the car which sets it apart from Punto, Polo, Santro, etc.? I see the body colored contours, and the sleek door handles, you did mention that the passenger seat window rolls down only 60%, anything else?

BTW, which tracks have you been running the car through? I can’t seem to recognize any of the places you’ve been cruising around.

I see Oscar observing you closely while you were driving…next we might see him push you aside and get behind the wheels himself…after all FIGO seems to be a pet friendly car…maybe Ford can use this to extend to an entire target segment of dog owners…”FIGO is so easy to handle even your Kutta can drive it”
