200 cc motorcycles in India, specs and price list

Saturday, October 25, 2008, 17:42

There was a time when anything more than 100 cc on a motorcycle was just a dream. And the average motorcycle weighed around 110 kilos.

How times have changed. All those cool accessories we tried to bolt on to our bikes, now comes factory-fitted. Motorcycles routinely weigh 130 kilos, maximum speeds of motorcycles on the top end of the market in India – that is 200-220 cc – is now at 145 kmph claimed. They would all run easily at 100 kmph without catching a breath. And how good they look! Pulsar started the trend, and then it took off from there.

Go here if you are looking for 100 cc motorcycles in India and their features and price list, and here for 100 cc scooters

Here is the pick of the 200 cc class motorcycles in India for you. Currently, technically, the most advanced motorcycle in the 200 cc class seems to be the Bajaj Pulsar 220-Fi. But frankly, none of these motorcycles look as good as the new Yamaha YZF-R15 and the FZ-16. So, as a mark of protest, I would say you should not buy any of these bikes till the manufacturers do justice to them and style them world-class!

Bajaj AVENGER DTS-i 200

Bajaj Avenger 200 cc bike

Bajaj Avenger 200 cc bike

AVENGER 200 is a 200-cc motorcycle from Bajaj Auto Limited. Its maximum power is 17.3 bhp, maximum torque is 16.7 nm, has 5 gears, electric start, tripmeter, fuel tank capacity of 14 litres. Claimed fuel efficiency is 40 km/l. Price in Delhi is Rs 64,800.

The Avenger is the successor to the Bajaj Eliminator – which was actually a Kawasaki motorcycle. It was priced too high for the market that that point; but once Bajaj plonked in a retuned version of the Bajaj Pulsar 200-DTS-i engine into it, Bajaj could price it at a more affordable Rs 64,000. A very good motorcycle for long rides.

Bajaj PULSAR 200 DTS-i

PULSAR 200 DTS 1 is a 200-cc motorcycle from Bajaj Auto Limited. Its maximum power is 18 bhp @ 8000 rpm, maximum torque is 17.1 nm @ 8000 rpm, has 5 gears, disc brake, alloy wheels, tachometer, electric start. Claimed fuel efficiency is 55 km/l. Price in Delhi is Rs 67,700. Very popular – it has more power than the Yamaha FZ-16 or the YZF-R15, mind you.

Bajaj PULSAR 220 DTS-F1

PULSAR 220 DTS-F1 is a 200-cc motorcycle from Bajaj Auto Limited. Its maximum power is 19.72 bhp @ 8500 rpm, maximum torque is 19.12 nm @ 6500 rpm, has disc brake, alloy wheels, tachometer, electric start, 5 gears. Claimed fuel efficiency is 50 km/l. Price in Delhi is Rs 82,100.

Top speed of the Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi is a claimed 145 kmph.

KARIZMA is a 200-cc motorcycle from Hero Honda Motors Limited. Its maximum power is 16.88 bhp @ 7000 rpm, maximum torque is 18.35 nm @ 6000 rpm, has disc brake, alloy wheels, tachometer, electric start, 5 gears. Claimed fuel efficiency is 35 km/l. Price in Delhi is Rs 71,500. Top speed of the Karizma is around 125 kmph. The Karizma is excellent for touring – despite the sporty styling. It does not look as great as the new Yamaha motorcycles though. But you get an amazing 0-60kmph timing of 3.8 seconds! That should keep a Karizma rider ahead of most other motorcycles currently available in India.

The Karizma has gone through a few iterations since its launch almost 5 years back.

I do agree that the real pleasure of riding bikes is when one gets the feel of a high powered bike,it not neccessarily has got to be a ful fledged sports bike but atleast a 250cc bike which should give a mileage of 35km/l. It’s high time, bikes like these should have been introduced long back in the Indian market.
