Suzuki’s Kosai plant touches 15
million production mark
4 April, 2008 BY OUR AUTOMOBILE CORRESPONDENT Suzuki Motor Corporation has achieved the 15-million-unit production mark at its Kosai Plant in Japan. According to a report, the Plant No. 2 at the Kosai site had started producing compact cars in August 1983 in line with a tie-up between Suzuki and General Motors. Since then, the Kosai Plant has undergone successive production-facility enhancements including a new assembly line at the Plant No. 1 in March 2002. The Kosai Plant No 1 was completed and opened in October 1970 specifically for production of mini passenger cars. The Kosai Plant achieved 10 million units of production in August 2000. This landmark has been achieved approximately 30 years after its opening. The production capacity has touched the 15-million-unit milestone seven years and seven months later. Way back in 1970, the plant rolled
out a Fronte mini passenger car, which
became the first vehicle to be rolled
out of the production line at the
Kosai Plant. Since then the plant has
seen many a vehicle, such as the Alto,
Wagon R, Kei, MR Wagon, Cervo, and
Palette, and compact cars including
the Cultus (Baleno), Aerio (Liana),
Swift, and SX4 rolling out of its
assembly line.
