Opel/Vauxhall Meriva Concept photo Geneva Motor Show 2008

The next level of monocab flexibility will be on show at the Geneva Motor Show that opens on March 6, 2008. Opel/Vauxhall is set to roll out the dynamically styled Meriva Concept right on time for the show.

According to the preview news report, the Opel / Vauxhall Meriva Concept car comes with rear-hinged rear doors called FlexDoors. The car, being positioned as a family vehicle, comes with greater functionality, a higher level of safety and is stylish to the core. Entering and exiting the vehicle is more convenient as the rear doors open to a 90-degree angle, creating a much wider aperture than standard car doors. A high roofline ensures that rear passengers also have more headroom when getting in and out of the car.

Talking of safety, the report said that the rear-hinged rear doors improve control over children exiting the car, as they can be better seen from the different seating positions. It said that a safety zone between both doors makes it difficult for kids to step out into traffic than with conventional doors.

FlexDoors' smooth operation is backed up by an array of patented innovations developed by GM engineers. A safety system ensures the doors can only be opened from the inside or outside when there is no risk to the passengers. The Opel / Vauxhall Meriva Concept also features an automatic electronic child lock.

The Opel / Vauxhall Meriva Concept is said to have a design that looks cool due to its attractive combination of practicality and spaciousness with very dynamic and cool styling. The Meriva Concept clearly illustrates how the new Opel/Vauxhall design language can be adapted to create bold, fresh design solutions for the monocab segment.

Another feature of the Opel / Vauxhall Meriva Concept is the U-shaped windshield, which stretches up and back over the rear passengers' heads. An overall rating says that the FlexDoors concept is a logical enhancement of General Motors monocabs’flexibility.
