Narain Karthikeyan has eventful day One at
Melbourne F1 practice
Overall, the day was quite disappointing for rookie
Formula One driver Narain Karthikeyan, India's racing ace.
4 March 2005: Not exactly the Day One that Narain
Karthikeyan had in mind, we are sure. However, he did quite
well considering the run of bad luck he had today.
To begin with, he raced out of the pitlane when the lights
changed. The speedguns caught him at a speed of 86.2
kilometers per hour - the officially permitted speed limit in
the pit lane is 80 kmph.
Narain Karthikeyan is quite confused about how it
happened.
Overenthusiasm and kamikaze driving? People who may now him
from the years past may say so. But this could have been a
problems with the speed guns too. Narain Karthikeyan was fined
6,750 US
dollars by race stewards for this.
In the first practice session, he was quite slow and off
the pace - the reason soon became evident. Narain's Jordan
Toyota EJ-15 developed an oil leak. Narain had to get back to
pit lane for that. Of course, the car smoked a bit - prompting
at least one F1 website to call it the first blown engine of
F1 2005! The Jordan engine did not blow thought it smoked
quite a bit, we are happy to clarify.
Anyway with his practice session confined to 6 laps only,
Narain was an unhappy man. The third driver of F1 Jordan,
Robert Doornbos had the best time of the three Jordan drivers.
However, Narain made up for the disappointing performance
in the second practice session. Here, we was faster than both
his Jordan teammates by fractions of a second and placed 19th
among the F1 drivers who were out on track today.
