Land Rover is planning a mega fete for its 60th anniversary. The automaker will celebrate the event with a new special edition of the iconic Defender, the SVX, said a report.
The special edition of the Defender
SVX, according to the report, will be
available in both 90 soft-top and 90
station wagon versions. The vehicle
will
come with metallic black paintwork.
According to a preview report, the
vehicle’s exterior features boast of a
contrasting silver finish, tubular
side-steps and bold surround for the
front grille with new clear-lens
headlamps. It will also feature new
five-spoke alloy wheels, a reinforced
aluminum front under shield and clear
LED rear lights, it added.
The interiors comprise custom-designed Recaro front seats, distinctive alloy gear knobs, a new audio system, iPod cradle and Garmin satellite navigation. The preview report added that the soft-top models are complete with a metallic silver tubular cage that supports a tailor-made, removable black fabric hood. This encloses a flat load-space and a spare wheel stowed behind the front seats, reminiscent of the very first open-top Land Rovers.
Each SVX model for the UK will also come fitted with an individually numbered plaque.
According to the company, the Defender SVX would resemble a 1948 Land Rover, but it would still be a practical vehicle. It may be noted that the company’s new diesel engine introduced earlier in 2007 has found acceptance among customers. The company aims to make available as many as 200 SVX vehicles in Britain.
History says that the Land Rover Defender SVX was unveiled for the first time by Zara Phillips at the British Red Cross Ball in London earlier in November end 2007. The world's first SVX has been donated by Land Rover UK to the British Red Cross to auction at the ball.
