Honda Airwave launch - news and photo
Honda to launch its Airwave and microwave the market in
Japan
Is this the coolest station wagon? The Honda Airwave seems to be, er, making waves alright.
The Honda Microwave - sorry, Airwave - comes equipped with an a 1.5 litre engine for between 1.5 million yen ($13,800) and 1.95 million yen. Those of you in India may find the looks lishgtly familiar - it is based on the Honda Fit - which is the base of the Indian Honda City.
The Airwave features a so-called sky roof that measures 1.1 meters × 77 cm, a large luggage capacity of 473 liters. The Honda Airwave also boasts an abundant luggage capacity and versatile seating arrangements in Honda's original center-fuel tank layout.
Honda plans to sell 4,000 Airwave station wagons a month in Japan as it introduces new models to take market share from Toyota Motor Corp. and other local competitors.
According to Honda, the Airwave with its electric sunroof is a "a cool lifestyle component for youthful customers who value their own individual sensibilities over any single style."
Honda is betting on the Airwave to take sales from Toyota's Corolla Fielder and Nissan Motor Co.'s Wingroad station wagon. Company President Takeo Fukui has said the Tokyo-based company probably had a fourth straight year of record profit in the year ended March 31, on increased sales in the U.S. and China.
