Monaco Grand Prix race result: Alonso and Lewiston shine while Massa and Raikkonen languish27 May, 2007 BY OUR AUTOMOBILE CORRESPONDENT McLaren Mercedes had a brilliant day today at Monaco F1. Fernando Alonso, starting from pole position, held his own against brilliant rookie teammate Lewis Hamilton to take the race win. Lewis Hamilton did not get a chance to become the first Formula One rookie driver to take the win at Monaco, but he gave Alonso tough competition every inch, and the defending champion held himself well against the pressure. Ferrari's Felipe Massa could not offer any serious competition at all to the McLaren cars, and stayed at his slot offering a solid, if boring, race. Kimi Raikkonen, who started at 16, was at 12 before the first lap was over. But then on, his progress was slowed by much slower cars, and on the winding and twisting streets of the Monaco principality, he found it impossible to even attempt a serious overtaking maneuver on any of the slow cars in front of him. Finally, he had to contend himself with 8th position and 1 point.
