Chery to make bullet proof sedans

BY OUR AUTOMOBILES CORRESPONDENT

March 21, 2007: Chery Automobile, the Chinese automaker, has announced plans to begin manufacturing bullet proof sedans. The venture will be in collaboration with a Uruguayan company, said a report.

Chery has said that it would work with its Uruguayan partner, Bognor SA, to manufacture bullet proof sedans in Montevideo. These cars would be sold internationally to anyone who is interested in acquiring them.

According to a newspaper report, the latest venture by Chery would benefit the carmaker’s aim to venture outside their domestic market of China. Meanwhile, Chery also has announced the details of its first model made under a new partnership with German-American automaker DaimlerChrysler AG.

However, the company has no plan to launch the car made in co-operation with Chrysler in the North American and West European markets. The company had showcased the Chery A1 model which is an upgraded version of the popular QQ model, and said this model would be sold in the Chinese market. The A1 will be launched in April during the Shanghai international auto show. It could be the first model produced for export from a collaboration between Chery and DaimlerChrysler AG.

The minicar, made at an estimated cost of US $6,459, is likely to be sold under the Dodge brand overseas.
