21 August , 2005: The ATVs-are-not-safe is not gonna like this one bit. Bombardier has introduced world's first real two-rider ATVs. The Bombardier Outlander Max 800 HO EFI XT and 400 HO XT ATV are designed from the ground up to deliver safe rising with a passenger. It was not just about adding a seat, says Bombardier.
Bombardier Bombardier outlander max 800 HO EFI XT and 400 HO XT ATV have its frame, suspension, and a yes, a spare seat specially designed for carrying a passenger. The passenger seat in the ATVs can be easily replaced with a rack. As it is designed specifically for such rising, the ATVs can maintain their stability and control, and avoid the accidents that seem to happen too often when ATVs carry a passenger.
That was because ATVs were never designed to carry an extra passenger. Something which everyone knew, but no one practised. As ATVs are driven mostly on private lands, trails or woods, this was sometyhing which everyone knew and ignored, often to disastrous consequences.
In the Two Rider Series ATVs, the chassis is redesigned to place both the riders in front of the rear axle of the ATV. This adds to stability instantly, and avoids it flipping over. The passenger seats on the Outlander max 800 ATV and 400 HO EFI XT ATV are raised, so the passenger or pillion can look over the driver's shoulder and be prepared for udulations in terrain. The ATVs have a raised floorboard for keeping the passenger's feet for better stability. Handgrips are also provided.
All of these are lacking on the average ATV you can buy. As a large number of riders tend to ignore the obvious refety norms, it has been an excellent step by Bombardier to develop these two rider ATVs - instead of cribbing and complaining painlessly, we have a solution. A business solution to plain human stupidity? Hell yeah.
