The Consumer Electronics Show to open in Las Vegas will showcase a charmer. The company that claims itself to be the first Internet service provider for cars is up to something unique as the show gets underway. 

Autonet Mobile has been reportedly mulling over the launch of its new service at ShowStoppers during the Consumer Electronics Show. The company also promises to announce an agreement with a world leading car rental company to offer a portable, wireless Internet service by the end of the first quarter of 2007. 

According to Autonet Mobile the new wireless Internet service will let passengers check email, surf the web, game or communicate via any WiFi-enabled device. The service is being optimized for the in-car experience, and is specifically designed to work on 95 percent of US roads, regardless of driving conditions or location.

Elaborating on the new service, reports quoting Autonet Mobile said that installation would be via plug and play by plugging the WiFi access point and router into the car' cigarette lighter. Though the company has stopped short providing details as to how the unit connects to the Internet , it has revealed that the service would be made possible through seamless Internet connectivity so that passengers stay connected while driving. The wireless Internet will provide intelligent, dynamic automatic session management between high and low speed networks, it says.

The company has pasted a price tag of $ 399, and the monthly service charge would be up to $49. It is 

The wireless Internet for cars does sound promising. But it will be quite a while before he service heads for the Indian roads.
