Premier Air is soon to join the list of low-cost carriers taking to skies, according to an application filed with the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Premier Air is promoted by two non-resident Indians based in the US and two Madras based businessmen, reports said.
Premier Air will join the ranks of other low-cost discount airlines operating in the country including Air Deccan, Go Air and Spicejet. Other upstart airlines which took wings this year include Kingfisher, Paramount Air and Go Air. Out of these, only Go Air is a low-cost airline. Paramount is an all-business carrier, while Kingfisher is regular airline.
Premier Air is expected to start flying by September next, if everything goes well. Premier Air is believed to be waiting for a no-objection certificate before starting flights.
According to reports, Premier Air will start its flights with five planes and will later expand it to 20 aircraft.
If everything goes smoothly, Premier Air and Indigo Airlines will be the upstart low-cost fliers of 2006. Premier Air is expected to be based in Chennai.
