4 August, 2005: Go Airlines, a low-cost airline floated by the Wadia group, is slated to commence commercial operations from October 2005 using A320 aircraft with an all economy class of 180 seats.
The company, which had placed orders for our A-320 aircraft from Airbus Industrie, is planning to induct an additional three aircraft and commence operations with a total of seven planes. The company intends to expand its fleet as the carrier moves ahead with its operations in the country.
The airlines has received regulatory approvals for domestic operations, but it is yet to finalise the routes for its flights.
The carrier has also sought Maharashtra Airport Development Company’s (MADC) approval for parking its four aircraft at the Nagpur airport. It had secured three parking bays in the western region at Ahmedabad and Baroda, but requires additional place for parking the remaining four aircraft.
"Securing parking bays at Mumbai airport would be next to impossible due to the acute congestion there,” according to company sources.
Go Airlines intends to park four aircraft at Nagpur along with its total engineering infrastructure. It has also requested a hanger for the same.
Several other airlines and aircraft maintenance organisations have sought information from various authorities regarding the development of the proposed air cargo and passenger hub at Nagpur.
Sabina Airlines, a Belgium-based company, and Goodrich from the US have evinced interest in setting up operations in the space allotted to the proposed air cargo hub.
Go Airlines is the second private airline to look at Nagpur as a parking bay, as Air Sahara has also evinced interest in making Nagpur the hub of its operations.
