23 August 2005: Low-budget airline Air Deccan is launching an evening flight from New Delhi to Amritsar, starting August 24. This is in addition to the existing daily morning flights between the two cities.
The flight is being launched due to the good response from the Delhi-Amritsar flight, which is averaging load factors of over 90 per cent and the constant demand from the passengers on the route.
“The Amritsar-Delhi flight route has been consistently showing average occupancy levels of 100 per cent and has been a hit with the passengers," Air Deccan Managing Director GR Gopinath said.
The airline has priced air tickets on this route at Rs 1,975 for one-way travel.
Air Deccan is also planning to extend its Chandigarh-Delhi flight to Jammu in the next three months and add another flight on the Delhi-Chandigarh route within the next five months.
The new flight on the Delhi-Chandigarh route would be extended to Pathankot, Air Deccan's Chief Revenue Officer John Kuruvilla said.
Air Deccan's existing Delhi-Chandigarh-Delhi flight, which started in May 2005, has been a hit with passengers with an average 60 per cent occupancy rate.
Gopinath also said that Air Deccan plans to include Ludhiana in its network of flights. "We are planning to connect Ludhiana with Mumbai soon," he said.
He, however, did not specify a date for the commencement of the services.
Air Deccan had ordered 62 brand new aircraft, 32 Airbus A-320s and 30 ATR-72-500s, which would be delivered over the next five years. This will increase its flights close to 600 per day by the end of five years, he said.
