14th August 2005: Boeing Company has announced that it will
commence deliveries of the 10 Next–Generation 737-800s to Jet Airways,
beginning early 2006. The Indian carrier had placed orders for Boeing
aircraft, valued at a list price of $680 million, at the Paris Air Show
in June 2005.
The Next-Generation Boeing 737 family is the popular choice of airlines
worldwide, as the plane has proven capabilities and reliability, and with over
5,900 planes ordered by 225 customers, Boeing said in a press release..
It said that till date, 88 airlines have placed orders for over 2,700
Next-Generation 737s. At the Paris Air show, Jet Airways announced that it has
intention to order an additional 10 777s aircraft. This was to be finalised on a
later date.
Boeing Vice President (Sales & Marketing) Dinesh Keskar said ,"the 737s deliver
real advantages to Indian carriers' customers and help them to generate strong
profitability from operations. We are gratified that our airplanes play a role in the
Jet Airways story of success in the Indian commercial aviation industry".
According to Jet Airways Chairman Naresh Goyal, the airlines expects that the deal
of additional 737s to allow it to grow profitably, even as the stress is on low
operating costs and high customer satisfaction. Jet Airways currently operates a
fleet of 39 classic and Next-Generation Boeing 737-400s, 737-700s, 737-800s
and 737-900 airplanes. The company enjoys the credibility of operating one of the
youngest aircraft in the world.
The carrier ferries around 24,000 passengers daily on over 280 flights to 48
destinations in India and beyond, including Colombo, Sri Lanka,
Kathmandu, Nepal, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Heathrow, UK.
Jet Airways, since its inception in May 1993, has flown over 53.5 million
passengers.
