20 Sep, 2005: Closely following its expansion at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, European low-budget airline easyJet said it is adding an extra aircraft for flights to its base in Basel this spring, opening four new flight routes and increasing passenger capacity on existing flights to Berlin and Hamburg.
The twice daily budget flights to Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris will start on October 31, 2005. easyJet's daily flights to Lisbon, Amsterdam and Prague (five flights a week) start on March 10. The new flight routes are expected to attract both business and leisure passengers alike with their strong tourist attractions, community and business links.
Starting November 14, 2005, flight frequency between EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg and Berlin Schoenefeld Airport will be hiked to 2-3 a day, even as daily flights to Hamburg will be increased to twice daily. easyJet hopes the business travelers can be tapped with the new flights and capacity additions.
As of now, easyJet flies three planes from Basel - Mulhouse Airport, providing a choice of 13 flight routes across Europe. With the latest fourth aircraft, easyjet hopes to fly over 1.5 million air passengers on its 17 routes next year.
Sales of the cheap budget discount air tickets have started in the easyJet website. Said Philippe Vignon, Country Manager for Switzerland: " easyJet has received an excellent response to our expansion at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg and we are delighted to be announcing an increase in capacity that will enable us to offer a greater choice of routes to consumers of the region. Not only are easyJet's service providing a greater choice of destinations to business and leisure travellers, the airline is also providing a greater boost to the local economy as it encourages more inbound tourism".
